Simply put, you cannot make employees learn, but you can always create a conducive environment that  encourages it. So how do you make sure your employees stay on track throughout the online training?

The key is in motivation. It encourages trainees to pursue training, and stay tuned until they finish.

So, here are some proven ways to encourage employees:

1. Let learners take charge

The best thing you can do with an online training is to let go. Allow trainees to select the pace and the way they would like to be trained. Restricting learners’ choice for factors like time period, device, courseware delivery methods can defeat the basic purpose. So, let users take the lead and decide. The basic intent of an online course is to offer training at convenience. Allowing learners to take lead inspire them to take on course and pursue till it ends.

2. Appeal to emotions

Connecting with learners emotion is one of the proven ways to achieve success of an online training program. To ensure this, consider including an emotional elevation. Providing facts and lessons in a straightforward manner can turn them off. Consider adding some cases, real-life situations or even audio/ video clippings which evoke emotions to keep users hooked.

3. Integrate progressive difficulty levels

A training program comprises of various exercises like quizzes, tests and case-study to engage users. But in absence of progressive difficulty levels, trainees may find it less challenging and result in stagnancy.

Remember, challenges are inspiring and learners respond positively when their abilities are stretched. So integrate exercises with progressive difficulty levels in module. Allowing selective access to a module on qualifying an exercise or test. This would encourage trainees to keep trying to be better every time.

4. Reward learners

This ties to the previous point. Challenges are important, but in absence of rewards it remains incomplete. Identify and offer rewards to trainees on qualifying an exercise/ a milestone or when they reach a certain module. An actual merchandise or certificate of appreciation,. Rewards give a sense of achievement and act as an encouragement. Make sure you offer one.

5. Offer learning the right way

Real world examples are always engaging and offer better retention. You can integrate lessons with real world scenarios to create a compelling training program. However, be selective in incorporating. The trainees must co-relate these situations with workplace challenges. Give them a chance to earn credits for taking an appropriate decision and let them know how they fared in the virtual task.
